One of the things about Equiano's narrative about the Middle Passage is that is shows how far America has come from what it was several hundred years ago. Equiano later raised enough money to buy his freedom and move on. This proves that American's are strong willed and have their own definite character that will prove them in the long run.
Equiano moved on to help pass the Slave Trade Act of 1807 which helped abolish slavery. After he bought his freedom, Equiano traveled the world, including South America and the newer American Colonies. This is an example of the budding promise of America; a place that is made up of hundreds of different races, religions, and beliefs; a place where you can choose who you want to be instead of conforming to society's pre-determined standards.

Racism Political Cartoon

Racial profiling in society causes conflict between the law and minorities. In the cartoon, the policeman’s speed radar is registering the colors white, brown, and black instead of speeds. This illustrates how law enforcement will use racial profiling and determine the quality of justice based on a person’s race. Another example of racial profiling in the cartoon is how the white policeman is determined to pull over a black driver. This shows how the policeman is biased in favor of white men because he enforces the law based on the race of the driver instead of the actual crime. Law enforcement unfairly uses racial profiling to determine who is violating the law by what race they are.
